Temperatures will remain chilly over the next five day period with plenty of rain also hitting the country.
An unpredictable few days are on the way with milder conditions in certain parts of the country compared to near freezing weather elsewhere.
The national forecast is predicting a cool day on Friday with plenty of rain.
Saturday and Sunday will both be cold in parts of the country although a change is expected early next week.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Rain will continue to move eastwards across the country this morning and will be heavy at times giving a risk of spot flooding.
"The rain will clear into the Irish Sea later this morning but it will remain cloudy through the rest of the day with patchy outbreaks of light rain or drizzle in places. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in mostly fresh but occasionally strong and gusty southwest winds.
"Cloudy with some patchy drizzle in places at first. Rain will develop in the northwest early in the night and will move southeastwards overnight, becoming lighter and patchier.
"Temperatures will stay around 10 or 11 degrees in the south and east, but will fall to between 6 and 9 degrees in the northwest as the rain passes. Southwesterly winds will be mostly moderate to fresh but occasionally strong and gusty.
"Cloudy and mild with outbreaks of rain across the south and east at first tomorrow morning, but this rain will clear southeastwards through the morning, followed by sunny spells and showers from the northwest.
"Showers will be most frequent in Connacht and Ulster. The afternoon will start out with temperatures ranging 7 to 12 degrees north to south, but reducing 6 to 9 degrees by late afternoon. Winds will be mainly light to moderate southwesterly.
"Cool and mostly dry on Sunday, but turning wet early next week with a slight increase in temperatures."
Both Saturday and Sunday nights will see temperatures as low as 2C before it becomes milder and wetter from Monday onwards.
The forecaster added: "Rain in the west and northwest early Monday morning will spread across the country through the day and will be heavy at times.
"South to southwest winds will increase moderate to fresh and it will become milder, with afternoon temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.
"Rain will continue in many areas through Monday night and will be heaviest and most persistent across the southern half of the country. Minimum overnight temperatures will range between 6 degrees in the northwest to 12 degrees in the southeast. Southwesterly winds will ease light to moderate in most places, but will stay fresh in the southeast.
"Rain is likely to persist across the south during Tuesday, with drier but cloudy conditions further north. A cold day in most areas with afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, but a few degrees higher in the south and southeast."
