Ireland is in for some bizarre October weather trends next week as a glimpse of the summer sun will return before a swift change to colder conditions.
According to Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly, big fluctuations in conditions will be seen over the next 7-10 days.
Mr O'Reilly said: "Those with underfloor or slow heating systems are going to want to watch the temperature forecast. Some big fluctuations over the next 7-10 days.
"Warm again early next week up to 18c but then dropping quickly for end of week again."
As for this weekend, those living in the North, northwest and east will see some sunny spells in the early parts of the day, although cloud cover will increase in Connacht and Leinster later in the day and may bring some isolated patches of drizzle.
Many places will remain dry overnight with just scattered showers of rain and light southeast winds.
More persistent rain will develop in the southwest in the early hours of Saturday morning with temperatures dropping as low as 2-4 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures will jump to 13 to 16 degrees by Saturday afternoon, but it will be a wet day with rain spreading from the southwest through the morning, and reaching north-eastern counties.
Sunday will be a mild day with cloud and sunny spells across the country.

Cloudier condition are expected later on in the day with some drizzle across northern and western counties but temperatures are set to reach 18C around the south of country.
Forecasts at this point show the milder weather continuing into Tuesday but it will likely turn unsettled by midweek, with a return of colder conditions.
