Met Eireann’s forecast for the week shows a major change in conditions for most from Tuesday.
Monday will see a continuation of showers of rain with a bitterly cold afternoon expected nationwide with lows of just 2 degrees overnight.
However, Tuesday will bring some clear spells of sunshine for most of the country, but temperatures will remain wintery.
According to the Irish forecaster, it’ll be a “bright and largely dry day on Tuesday with long spells of sunshine and just a little patchy drizzle along southern coasts and isolated light showers in the northwest.
“Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in light southwesterly winds, fresher near to the northwest coast.”
Wednesday will be another day of sunshine and clear skies for the most part with the warmest conditions expected in the west and southwest - where temperatures will reach 10 degrees.
Meteorologists expect it to be “mostly dry into Wednesday with spells of sunshine once the early mist and fog clear.
“Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees, mildest in the west and southwest, in light to moderate southwesterly or variable winds.”
As for the rest of the week, at this point Thursday and Friday look to be mainly dry days though a little drizzle is possible at times on Atlantic coasts.
It will return to bitterly cold conditions as highest temperatures will range from 5 or 6 degrees in the east and northeast to a milder 8 or 9 degrees further west.
“Nights will be cold with some frost and dense fog patches forming.”
At this point Saturday and Sunday look "generally settled with just the odd shower about the coasts."
