Ireland weather: July heatwave to scorch Europe as Met Eireann gives early Irish forecast

The scorching weather hitting mainland Europe is set to continue into July but there is still no sign of it reaching Ireland.

Madrid in Spain will be close to the 40C mark towards the end of the week but the UK and Ireland will be stuck with less pleasant conditions.

At the moment, it is forecast to pick up slightly as we head into the weekend but temperatures are unlikely to break the 40C mark.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Overall dry with good sunny spells and light westerly breezes on Thursday.

"However, some showers will develop across east and northeast counties. Feeling milder than recent days with highest temperatures ranging 15 to 19 degrees Celsius.

"Rain will move in from the Atlantic overnight, accompanied by freshening southerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees Celsius.

"A dull, wet and breezy day Friday with outbreaks of rain throughout much of the day. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, in mostly fresh southwest winds.

"Sunny spells and scattered showers about this weekend; mainly affecting Atlantic counties on Saturday and other areas early Sunday morning.

"Blustery at times too, with fresh west to southwest breezes. Afternoon temperatures will reach the high teens in sunshine, away from Atlantic counties."

Next week is also set to be unsettled with no indication as of yet that a warm spell will come our way.

UK weather chiefs are predicting a hotter period towards the middle of July but it's too early to tell if Ireland will experience the same.
