Ireland weather: Hottest day of the year on Monday - but Met Eireann warns 'noticeable change' on the way

Ireland is set for the hottest day of the year on Monday as highs of up to 27C are expected.

But it's not all good news, as Met Eireann warned of a "noticeable change" from midweek.

And while tomorrow will remain warm and mostly dry, some outbreaks of rain are expected in the north and northwest of the country.

Forecaster Gavin Gallagher said we will see a "summer's day" on Monday, with the mercury rising as high as 27C, and more warmth on Tuesday.

He told the Irish Mirror: “For Monday, it will be warmest in the midlands and the west, while it will be a degree or two less in the east and the south.

“But all of the country will get above 20 degrees, and it will be dry.

“It will be a warm, pleasant, summer day - so for the first day of summer, it will be a summer’s day."

Tuesday will begin with sun and warm temperatures - but will become cloudy in the afternoon or evening, according to Mr Gallagher.

However weather experts have warned of a "noticeable change" from the middle of the week as the mini-heatwave comes to an end.

Temperatures will start to dip and some further showers are expected in places.

A forecaster added: "Breezier and much cooler on Wednesday. Maxima will range 12 to 17 degrees, coolest in the north and northwest, in moderate to fresh and gusty northerly winds, strong near some coasts.

"It will start out mostly cloudy in the east and south with occasional rain or showers, but drier and brighter conditions in the west and north will spread countrywide later with some sunny intervals developing.

"Dry for much of Thursday in the east and south, with some sunshine early on, but tending to cloud over.

"Mostly cloudy conditions further west and north with outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing during the morning and edging only slowly southeastwards through the course of the day.

"Friday is currently looking rather cool and breezy with a mix of sunshine and showers. Northwest winds will be moderate to fresh and gusty, strong near coasts, with maximum temperatures ranging from 11 to 16 degrees north to south."
