Ireland weather: Highs of up to 22C as country to bask in summer sunshine

Temperatures are set to soar to highs of 22C today with some "hazy sunshine" on the way also.

Highs will range from 17C to 20C, but 20C to 22C degrees in sunny periods in some southern parts.

The south and southwest will enjoy the best of the sunshine while it'll be cloudy further north, Met Eireann say.

Winds will become mostly southerly, freshening later in the day.

And the outlook for the coming days is for average or slightly below average temperatures with warm and humid nights. But it will be rather cloudy with rain and drizzle at times.

Wednesday morning will start off dull and cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting most areas.

But some southern areas will escape the rain and remain dry with some sunny spells.

"Warm and humid with highest temperatures of 17C to 21C in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds."

The outlook for the next few days is for more changeable conditions but it will be mild with temperatures around normal or slightly above in southern areas.

Met Eireann said: "Wednesday night will be very mild, humid and close on with spells of rain in places and generally misty murky conditions, but the rain will tend to clear southwards later in the night".

It will be noticeably warm at night with lows of 11C to 14C.

A forecaster added: "Becoming drier in the afternoon with more sunny spells developing though some patches of drizzle will continue.
