Ireland weather: Forecaster says it's 'all downhill' from here as Met Eireann predict major change

The weather is "all downhill from here" according to forecaster Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather.

The country has been enjoying a beautiful spell of heat and sun but that is set to come to a swift end this week.

Forecasters expect a dip towards freezing conditions at night time while day time temperatures will be in the mid teens.

Alan O'Reilly tweeted: "Make the most of today, it’s all downhill from here I’m afraid. Turning cooler from tomorrow and spells of wet and windy weather too."

And Met Eireann certainly agree with some unkind weather set to move in from Tuesday onwards.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and it will turn rather breezy. Rain will arrive in the northwest by late morning and will move southeast across the country through the afternoon and evening.

"Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, increasing strong at times near coasts and veering northwesterly in western areas later. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees.

"Cool and changeable for the rest of the week, with spells of rain and showers but some drier periods too."

Wednesday will see plenty of showers and a dip to 4C overnight while on Thursday daytime temperatures are not even expected to surpass 13C.

The weather should recover at the weekend with a return to more seasonal temperatures.

The Met Eireann forecaster added: "Remaining unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, but daytime temperatures returning to near average."
