Ireland weather forecast: Temperature to plunge to 1C in midweek with chilly start to December

Temperatures will plunge to one degree mid week with a chilly and foggy start to December.

Today will be mostly cloudy with mist and fog slow to clear this morning.

It will be mainly dry apart from some patchy rain or drizzle, mainly in Connacht and Ulster. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees.

Met Eireann forecast that tonight will be cloudy and mostly dry at first with just some isolated light rain or drizzle

Monday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most persistent in the northwest. Much of Munster will be dry, with a chance of sunny intervals there.

The beginning of the week will be mostly cloudy with some rain or drizzle at times and temperatures will be average for the time of year.

It will turn colder and more unsettled from midweek.

Tuesday will be cloudy and damp in the morning, with further rain and drizzle in places, but it will become drier as the day goes on with a few breaks in the cloud developing.

Irish people will need to wrap up warm in midweek.

Wednesday will start off cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain moving southeastwards through the morning. Showers will develop in the northwest by the afternoon, turning more frequent and heavier as the day goes on.

Showers will become widespread on Wednesday night, merging into longer spells of rain at times. The rain will be heaviest in western areas and there will be a risk of hail too. It will be a cold night with lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees.

Thursday is due to be a cold day with widespread showers of rain or hail, clearing from most areas later in the day.
