Ireland weather forecast: Day-by-day weekend breakdown as Met Eireann predicts topsy-turvy conditions

Ireland is set for an "unsettled" weekend when it comes to the weather, with Met Eireann predicting changeable conditions including heavy rainfall at times.

The national forecasters says this weekend will be "changeable", with widespread showers on some days while things become clearer at other stages.

The freezing weather of last week appears to be subsiding, with the mercury finally tilting upwards after a perishing few days.

But the cost comes in the form of more rainfall, with showers set to fall across the country over the next few days.

Here's a breakdown of the weekend's weather:

Friday

Friday will bring a bright – and even sunny – spells, but also the risk of scattered showers, which will then become more prolonged in counties on the Atlantic coast in late afternoon.

Later on, there will be clear spells and scattered showers, mostly confined to the western half of the country as the night wears on.

Friday will be a cold night, with lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees.

Saturday

The first proper day of the weekend will be bright and (thankfully) mostly dry, though Met Eireann says a few scattered showers are possible – particularly on northwestern coasts.

Later, rain will come in from the Atlantic, with some heavy precipitation in places on top of strong gusts that will make things "very windy" overnight.

There's also a risk of frost in the east and northeast.

Sunday

Sunday morning will bring the return of bright conditions once again, but there will be a mixture of sunny spells and showers extending from the west of the country.

It'll be mild, though, with top temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees and moderate winds in most parts of Ireland.

Overnight, there'll be temperature lows of 5 to 8 degrees (considerably warmer than we've seen over the last few days), with clear spells and further showers.
