Ireland weather: Five-day forecast as Met Eireann predicts wet and wild week with flooding threat in some areas

We're in for a wet week.

Ireland will see buckets of rainfall over the next five days, according to Met Eireann's latest predictions for the country.

The week-long national forecast sees "wet and windy" weather likely for much of the week, with a risk of flooding in some parts of the country on Tuesday.

But Met Eireann says this week will remain "relatively mild for the time of year" – something that'll come as a big relief to many after weeks of perishing conditions.

A spokesperson for the national forecaster said: "Wet and windy weather expected Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Generally unsettled with rain and showers at times. Breezy too but holding relatively mild for the time of year."

Here's your day-by-day runthrough of the next week.

Monday

Scattered showers today will hit southern and eastern countries for much of the afternoon, before things start to dry out later on in the day.

In the west and south, scattered blustery showers will continue to hit many counties, though it will be dry elsewhere, with clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be 3 to 6 degrees.

Tuesday

Tuesday day time will be generally dry with "good sunny spells", according to Met Eireann. But there will be frequent blustery showers in western and southern countries – some of which will move inland over the course of the day. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees.

Tuesday night will bring the worst conditions we're likely to see this week, with wet and wild conditions as a low-pressure system brings strong winds and precipitation to eastern counties in particular.

There's even a risk of coastal and surface flooding, Met Eireann warns.

Wednesday

Wednesday will pick up as Tuesday left off, with windy and wet conditions for most of the morning. There will then be some scattered showers in from the Atlantic, as highest temperatures hit 8 to 11 degrees.

Wednesday night will be mostly dry, though there will be scattered showers in some parts of the country. In south to southwesterly areas, some mist and fog patches will develop.

Thursday

Sun will swap back and forth with rainfall on Thursday morning, before rain and drizzle settles in for the afternoon.

And it'll be humid on Thursday night, with temperatures holding high at 7 to 10 degrees as light and moderate southerly winds blow.

Friday

It'll start wet on Friday as rain moves eastwards across the country, easing off into showers over the afternoon period.

Highest temperatures will hit 9 to 12 degrees.
