Ireland weather: Expert's latest storm forecast pinpoints arrival of heavy rain and strong winds
Ireland’s summer weather is due to come to a fierce halt from Monday as conditions turn unsettled with rain and strong winds in some areas.
Forecasters predicted the stormy weather days ago as a low-pressure system begins to make its way towards the west coast of Ireland, however, one weather expert has said the worst of conditions will remain out in the Atlantic.
In a thread on Twitter, Alan O’Reilly wrote: “A nice day again tomorrow but warmest in the West with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Showers could push into the West and South later tomorrow evening.
“Latest that potential storm for Tuesday shows it staying out West with strongest thankfully out in the Atlantic but there is a risk of some heavy rain Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, Met Eireann’s outlook for the week ahead states: “Turning more unsettled with spells of rain and showers pushing up from the south, heavy at times, and accompanied by blustery conditions.
“Mild for the time of year at first but temperatures will decrease closer to average for midweek.”
The first of the showery rain will push up from the south on Sunday night, extending northwards through the night. Conditions will remain mild and humid with temperatures not falling below 10 to 13 degrees.
It will be a wet start to the week with widespread showery rain clearing northwards through the morning and afternoon, followed by sunny spells and scattered showers.
There will be some heavy falls at times with thundery downpours possible and highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees.
Outbreaks of rain with some heavy falls will extend across the country on Tuesday accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds.
The rain will clear northeastwards through the day as winds ease. Cooler than previous days with highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees generally.
A further spell of showery rain will push up from the south later in the evening, tracking northwards overnight.
Then on Wednesday, outbreaks of rain with heavy downpours will continue to track northwards over the country.
Some dry and sunny intervals will develop for a time in the late morning and early afternoon with further outbreaks of rain pushing in later.
As for the rest of the week, Met Eireann says “Current indications suggest that it will continue unsettled with further spells of rain and showers. Highest temperatures generally ranging from 14 to 18 degrees.”
