Ireland weather: Expert pinpoints last day of mild conditions as bitter cold set to arrive

An Irish weather expert has revealed Friday will bring the last of the “mild” conditions, as bitterly cold conditions are set to arrive.

Temperatures will reach 14 degrees celsius tomorrow alongside some sunny spells - particularly in the west, before temperatures begin to plummet this weekend.

Taking to Twitter, Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather confirmed; “Up to 14c with some patchy drizzle but sunny spells pushing in from the West.

“Enjoy the milder air, it could be a while before we see 14c again after tomorrow.”

Overnight on Friday it will remain generally cloudy with patches of drizzle or mist, however, “persistent rain will develop in the northwest towards dawn on Saturday,” according to Met Eireann.

On Saturday, showers of rain will spread across Connacht and Ulster counties and will extend to southern areas in the afternoon.

Colder conditions will be felt as scattered showers continue to roll across the west and north later in the evening.

The highest temperatures during the day will range from 9 to 12 degrees but they’re expected to plummet to between 2 and 5 degrees overnight.

Some hail showers will also be expected on Saturday evening, into the night across western and northern coastal counties.

Sunday will be another cold day with some sunny spells and showers of rain and hail mainly in the west and north once again.

Top temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are due alongside “brisk northerly winds.”

The first of the frost is then expected to form on Sunday night across the country with the lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees.

These bitterly cold conditions will continue into the beginning of next week, with conditions remaining the same.
