Ireland weather: Exact date heatwave will return to Ireland as weather maps show soaring temperatures

As the rain sets in for the weekend following days of thunderstorms and weather warnings, people might be wondering, just when will the sun come back?

One popular meteorologist online has pinpointed the exact date heatwave will return to Ireland.

Alan O'Reilly of the Twitter page Carlow Weather explained that the latest weather maps indicate a possible return to sunshine around June 24.

O’Reilly wrote on his page: "Longer range models continue to show a chance of high pressure returning from around the 24th (June).

“The position of low to the West will have a huge influence on our weather and a chance it could steer up some very warm air up over Ireland or UK. One to watch."

While the heat will remain up, with temperatures reaching up to 25C in parts of the country over the weekend, some areas will see storms.

A forecaster for Met Eireann said: "There will be some hazy sunny spells at times today, the best of which will be in Ulster and north Leinster this morning.

"It will turn cloudier overall though as the day progresses with showery outbreaks of rain in the south gradually extending to most parts during the day.

"The showers will be heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening.

"Highest temperatures will range from 18C in the southwest up to 25C in the northeast, in moderate to occasionally fresh southeasterly winds."

Overnight however, the weather is set to make a turn, with the forecaster adding: "Scattered thundery showers will continue overnight, mixed with clear spells.

"Some mist and fog patches will develop, especially along eastern coasts in light to moderate south to southeast winds. Mild with temperatures not falling below 12C to 16C."
