Ireland weather: Europe to be smothered by 'intense' heatwave as Met Eireann give Irish update

Parts of Europe will feel heat in the region of 43C over the coming days as Ireland makes do with a Bank Holiday washout.

A blast of hot weather from the Saharan desert is bringing the "intense" heat to many parts of Europe including Spain and Portugal.

But it doesn't look like the African plume will make it near Ireland with the outlook for the next week far from stunning.

The Bank Holiday weekend, while warm, will be filled with showers across the country.

Temperatures will near 20C on Saturday, Sunday and Monday but each day will see rain no matter where in the country you are.

Next week is looking much the same with so sign of any Saharan air in Met Eireann's latest forecasts.

A forecaster said: "Remaining unsettled with further showers and spells of rain. Below average temperatures at first, but increasing later in the week.

"Tuesday will be a cloudy and wet day, with rain in western areas early in the morning spreading countrywide through the morning and afternoon.

"Moderate southerly winds in most places, but freshening in the southwest with strong winds near coasts here. Highest temperatures of 16C to 20C.

"Wednesday will be brighter with a mix of sunshine and showers and highest temperatures of 17C to 21C degrees."

Even parts of England will get the scorching heat at some stage over the next few days but unfortunately, Ireland will miss out.
