Ireland weather: Day 'proper summer' could return pinpointed as Met Eireann forecast upturn

Weather charts are predicting Ireland could return to glorious sunshine in about ten days time.

Long-range forecasting does tend to be unpredictable but the early signs are that by July 17 Ireland will be basking in the heat again.

Carlow Weather expert Alan O'Reilly said that "proper summer" could be back on that date but it's too early to get over excited.

But Met Eireann are expecting an upturn in the next few days with weekend conditions likely to see temperatures go into the 20s.

Saturday and Sunday will both see temperatures heat up considerably although most of the country will have to get through a few wet days first.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Thursday will start out rather cloudy with patchy rain across Leinster and Munster but mainly dry for Ulster and Connacht with bright spells and just a few showers.

"This clearance to sunny spells will extend southwards to all areas during the afternoon, but some showers will develop also, some heavy. Top temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in a moderate northerly breeze.

"Bright spells and scattered showers on Friday, the showers mainly affecting western and northern counties. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees, warmest in the south of the country in fresh northwest breezes. Mainly dry overnight with clear spells and rather cold for mid-July with minimum temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees."

The best of the weather for the weekend will be in the south of the country although most areas will be fine.

However, the nice weather should become settled by next week.

The forecaster added: "At present some rain is expected on Monday but there is a trend for warmer and more settled weather to become established by mid-week."
