Ireland weather as Met Eireann issue gale warning with 'wet and very windy' days ahead before big change

Batten down the hatches because it's going to be wild with Met Eireann forecasting a "wet and very windy" few days.

The forecaster issued a Status Yellow gale warning early this morning with winds expected to hit gale force 8.

It reads: "Southerly winds will continue to reach gale force 8 today (Friday) on Irish coastal waters from Fair Head to Wicklow Head to Mizen Head and on the Irish Sea."

It will be wet and windy this morning in Dublin an will remain cloudy throughout the day although showers will clear by the evening with top temperatures of 11C.

Scattered showers will return tonight but it will be mostly dry and mild with temperatures only going as low as 7C.

It will be more of the same on Saturday and Sunday with mild temperatures, scattered showers and fresh to strong winds.

Things will take a turn from Monday nigh when it will become very wet and windy across the country with southerly gales on coasts.

But later in the week is looking much better as conditions settle down and we enjoy higher than normal temperatures for this time of year.

Here's how things are looking for the week ahead according to Met Eireann:

Monday: " A mostly dry day with sunny spells and just a few passing showers. Cloud will increase through the afternoon with rain arriving in the southwest by evening. Highs of 9 to 11 degrees in moderate southerly winds, strengthening later in the day.

"Becoming wet and very windy in all areas Monday night, with southerly gales on coasts."

Tuesday: "A wet and windy day, with heavy and persistent rainfall bringing a risk of flooding. Continuing mild with highs of 11 to 13 degrees, in strong southerly winds with gales on coasts."

Wednesday: "Remaining mild and unsettled with rain clearing to showers. Highs of 10 or 11 degrees in southwesterly winds."

Later next week: Current indications suggest our weather will become drier and more settled later next week and into the weekend, with lighter winds and temperatures remaining slightly above average.
