Ireland vs France: John Cooney drafted into squad ahead of Six Nations game

Ulster's John Cooney has been called into Ireland's squad ahead of Sunday's game against France in the Six Nations.

Cooney joins Harry Byrne in linking up with Andy Farrell's panel ahead of the game at Aviva Stadium.

The pair come in to provide cover after Conor Murray and Johnny Sexton were both ruled out with injuries.

Cooney hasn't featured for Ireland since being introduced as a sub in the 24-12 defeat to England in Twickenham in last year's Six Nations.

It was confirmed yesterday that first-choice half-back pairing of Murray and Sexton would both miss the France game.

Murray is out after picking up a hamstring injury in training While Sexton has failed to recover in time after suffering a head injury against Wales.

Jamison Gibson-Park and Billy Burns will start inSunday afternoon's game.
