Ireland underage starlet Oisin McEntee signs new contract with Newcastle United

Ireland underage starlet Oisin McEntee has been rewarded with a new contract with Newcastle United.

McEntee, who impressed in Ireland's run to the semi-finals in the under-19 European Championships in Armenia last year, trained with the Newcastle first team squad prior to the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Cavan-born centre-half joined the Magpies three years ago, is still only 19 and has been a regular for the Newcastle under-23s having previously skippered the club's under-18s.

McEntee also played for Ireland's under-17s in the European Championships in Dublin two years ago.

He went in goal to face a sudden death penalty in the quarter-final against the Netherlands when goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran was controversially sent off, with the Dutch going through 5-4 on spot-kicks.
