Ireland Under-21s boss Jim Crawford targets another shot at Toulon tournament

Jim Crawford is targeting another shot at the prestigious Toulon tournament this summer.

He was one of Stephen Kenny’s assistants when Ireland's Under-21s reached the semi-finals in 2019.

And now he wants to lead the team there himself as preparation for the Euro 2023 qualifying campaign.

Ireland have been drawn against Italy, Sweden, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro and Luxembourg in that campaign.

Although the qualifiers begin next month, Ireland don’t play until September but will nail down a March friendly.

The qualifying fixtures were confirmed today and Crawford said: “After that friendly we’re very keen on playing in the Toulon Tournament in June.

“In 2019, I saw the benefits of it. There were some players who used that tournament to really kick-on their career at club level."
