Ireland U21s beat China 4-1 in Toulon Tournament as Caomhin Kelleher plays 90 minutes less than two days after Champions League win

Republic of Ireland under-21's star Caoimhin Kelleher lined out for Stephen Kenny's men today less than 48 hours after winning the Champions League with Liverpool.

The Cork shot stopper collected his Champions League medal after featuring in Liverpool's 23 man squad for the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid on Saturday.

And after celebrating the Reds' sixth European crown with Jurgen Klopp and his team mates, he amazingly played a full 90 minutes for Kenny's Ireland in a 4-1 win over China today.

The Boys in Green enjoyed a successful return to the prestigious Toulon Tournament as early goals from Waterford star Zach Elbouzedi and Brighton ace Aaron Connolly rattled the net in the early exchanges.

China pulled one back after 18 minutes and Kelleher sprung into action at the end of the half to pull off a vital save to ensure Ireland went in at half-time with a one goal lead.

But an Adam Idah brace - both coming from the penalty spot - in the second-half ensured Kenny's charges got off to a flying start in the tournament.

Four players based in the League of Ireland played in the win, with Elbouzedi and Bohemians starlet Darragh Leahy starting - on loan Waterford striker Aaron Drinan and St. Pat's midfielder Jamie Lennon came off the bench.

Ireland will face Mexico on Thursday before Bahrain in the final group game on Sunday.
