(Picture: REUTERS)Ireland is set to end its 14 day quarantine rule for travellers from Britain.
Anyone travelling to Ireland from Britain is expected to quarantine for 14 days, despite the Common Travel area. This rule does not apply to travellers from Northern Ireland.
However, Ireland will announce later this week that travellers from mainland UK will no longer need to quarantine, reports The Telegraph.
The Irish Tourism Board will launch a multi-million euro advertising campaign to entice Britons to travel over.
Those who do travel will not face a quarantine on their return to the UK.
Prior to the pandemic, Ireland was the fifth most visited country for Brits, with 4.79m travelling there in 2019.
The top four were Spain, France, Italy, and the USA.
Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, told The Sun: "We know there is significant demand from British and other overseas visitors to return to Ireland as soon as possible.
"We are excited about the news that the (Irish) Government will make an announcement this week regarding summer travel, a move which would not only rekindle the close relations between our countries but also protect thousands of jobs and livelihoods across the travel sector."
However, Ireland's Covid restrictions currently lag behind Britain's, with pubs and restaurants not set to reopen until June.
The Irish government is to make an announcement on reopening plans on Friday, with much anticipation around dates for travel, indoor hospitality and live events.
