Ireland teammates angered by Richard Keogh's Derby dismissal

Republic of Ireland stars Jeff Hendrick and Harry Arter have taken to Twitter in a show of solidarity with sacked Derby captain Richard Keogh.

The Rams skipper, 33, was fired by the club over the drink-drive episode that left him with a serious knee injury.

And now his Ireland international teammates have taken to social media to share their dismay with his dismisal.

Central midfielder Harry Arter questioned the logic of Derby's decision, saying "So the one left unconscious in the car and not arrested gets sacked?".

And then Burnley player Jeff Hendrick responded to Arter's tweet, taking exception to the lack of compassion shown by the Championship side.

He added: "[I] agree. Talk about kicking a man, the captain, while he is down instead of helping him trough this physically and mentally tough time."

The Irishman was a passenger in the Range Rover driven by team-mate Tom Lawrence that crashed into a lamppost after a night out on September 24.

Lawrence and fellow Derby player Mason Bennett were both banned from driving and fined six week's wages over the incident.

Keogh is currently facing a long spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury as a result of the crash.
