Ireland team to play Wales: James Lowe to make debut as Johnny Sexton set for 100th international test

Johnny Sexton will make his 100th Test appearance on Friday night as James Lowe makes his Ireland debut in the Autumn Nations Cup opener against Wales at the Aviva Stadium.

Sexton, 35, will make his 94th Ireland appearance to go with the six Tests he has played with the Lions to date.

Lowe, 28, became eligible for Ireland last week and has been a part of Andy Farrell's camp since the players assembled ahead of the Italy game in the Six Nations last month.

The New Zealand-born winger has been outstanding for Leinster over the three years he has been at the club and is an exciting addition to Farrell's line-up.

Another Kiwi, scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park, makes his first start in place of Conor Murray, who is on the bench.

Gibson-Park came off the bench in the final Six Nations games against Italy and France in recent weeks.

In a further change to the backline, Chris Farrell comes into the centre as Robbie Henshaw's partner, with Bundee Aki left out of the matchday 23 and Keith Earls returning as bench cover.

Jacob Stockdale is given another chance at full-back and Hugo Keenan also retains his place on the wing.

Peter O'Mahony and Josh van der Flier return to the line-up, with O'Mahony at blindside and van der Flier at openside, and with Caelan Doris taking CJ Stander's place at no 8.

Will Connors, who started his first couple of Test games at no 7 against Italy and France, is among the replacements.

Also in the pack, Ronan Kelleher has recovered from injury and replaces Rob Herring. Dave Heffernan will again provide hooker cover.

Billy Burns has also recovered from injury and will provide bench cover for Sexton.

Ireland: J Stockdale, H Keenan, R Henshaw, C Farrell, J Lowe, J Sexton, J Gibson-Park; C Healy, R Kelleher, A Porter, I Henderson, J Ryan, P O'Mahony, J van der Flier, C Doris.

Replacements: D Heffernan, E Byrne, F Bealham, Q Roux, W Connors, C Murray, B Burns, K Earls
