Ireland team to play Scotland: Conor Murray named on bench as Andy Farrell makes three changes for Six Nations clash

Conor Murray must be content with a place on the Ireland bench in Murrayfield after Jamison Gibson-Park was backed to start again at scrum-half on Sunday.

Andy Farrell has made three changes from the side that produced a six-try victory over Italy almost a fortnight ago, Ireland's first win in the championship after the defeats to Wales and France.

Keith Earls, who played in those two defeats, returns for Jordan Larmour on the right wing as Farrell looks to the 33-year-old's experience in what could be wet and windy conditions in Edinburgh.

Cian Healy also returns after Dave Kilcoyne impressed at loosehead in Rome, with Farrell perhaps keeping in mind the six-day turnaround to the final championship game, the home tie against England on Saturday week.

Rónan Kelleher also loses out to Rob Herring at hooker, which comes as something of a surprise given what the younger man brings around the field and after a solid day with his lineout duties against the Azzurri.

Gibson-Park played well at the Stadio Olimpico and Farrell is giving him another chance from the start.

Murray picked up a hamstring injury in the Wales game and had to sit out the France and Italy fixtures as a result, but he takes the place of his Munster colleague Craig Casey among the replacements for this trip.

Casey made his debut against Italy off the bench, as did Leinster's Ryan Baird, who remains in the matchday squad for this encounter as Ireland strive to make it six in a row against the Scots.

CJ Stander will make his 50th appearance, having made his debut five years ago, and remains at no 8 in an unchanged back row that also includes Tadhg Beirne and Will Connors.

Ireland : H Keenan, K Earls, G Ringrose, R Henshaw, J Lowe, J Sexton, J Gibson-Park; C Healy, R Herring, T Furlong, I Henderson, J Ryan, T Beirne, W Connors, CJ Stander.

Replacements : R Kelleher, D Kilcoyne, A Porter, R Baird, J Conan, C Murray, B Burns, J Larmour.
