Ireland team to play England: Andy Farrell shakes things up as he makes six changes for Six Nations showdown

Andy Farrell has named an Ireland side with six personnel changes and three positional switches for Saturday's Six Nations clash with England at the Aviva Stadium (4.45pm).

Jacob Stockdale makes his first appearance of the championship after a knee injury, slotting in for James Lowe, who drops out of the matchday 23 after his defensive failings were exposed in last Sunday's 27-24 victory at Murrayfield.

Conor Murray, who remained on the bench last weekend after recovering from a hamstring injury, is also recalled at scrum-half for Jamison Gibson-Park, who is named among the replacements.

With James Ryan out with a head injury, Peter O'Mahony was expected to an immediate comeback to the line-up after his first-half dismissal against Wales last month earned him a three-game ban.

But while Tadhg Beirne reverts to the second row to replace Ryan and there are two changes to the back row, the Munster skipper is still named on the bench.

In a further blow to Farrell, openside Will Connors was ruled out yesterday after suffering a knee injury in training.

And the head coach has opted to bring in Leinster pair Josh van der Flier and Jack Conan to the back row, with CJ Stander - who announced he will be retiring at the end of the season - moved to the blindside to accommodate Conan at no 8.

With Garry Ringrose out with an ankle injury, Robbie Henshaw moves from inside to outside centre with Bundee Aki recalled to the no 13 jersey.

Replacements: R Kelleher, C Healy, A Porter, R Baird, P O'Mahony, J Gibson-Park, B Burns, J Larmour.
