Ireland striker Adam Idah fires hat-trick for Norwich on FA Cup debut against Preston

Irish teenager Adam Idah fired a hat-trick on his FA Cup debut for Norwich City against Preston North End this afternoon.

The Cork man, fresh off coming off the bench to make his Premier League bow against Crystal Palace in midweek, started up front for the Canaries at Deepdale.

And it took less than two minutes for him to find the back of the net as Idah latched onto a through ball before cooling slotting into the corner of the net.

His second was from long-range as Preston keeper Ripley ended up in no man's land before Idah showed great composure to float the ball over everybody from forty yards into the empty net.

The 18-year-old completed his hat-trick in the second half with a well-taken penalty before leaving to a standing ovation from the Norwich travelling support in the 86th minute.

A prolific scorer for both Ireland and the Canaries at underage level, Idah may have played his way out of loan move in January.

Doncaster Rovers are known admirers while there are a number of other League One and League Two clubs interested in the Leesider.

But Norwich have some injury concerns in attack with Teemu Pukki nursing toe and hamstring issues.

And with Dennis Srbeny still struggling with his back, Norwich may keep hold of Idah who should now get more chances in the senior team in the coming weeks.

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy, on punditry duty with BT Sport, said that the teenager may have done enough to earn a senior cap.

"He might have just got himself one (a senior Ireland international cap)!" McCarthy told BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey.

"He's just scored a hat-trick today. And he's playing in a real, competitive game. Not an under-21s, not an under-23s. It's an FA Cup tie against a good Preston team."
