Ireland star Joe Carbery expected to be fine for World Cup after going off against Italy

It has been confirmed that Joe Carbery has not suffered a fracture and is expected to travel to Portugal for Ireland's World Cup training camp next Wednesday.

The Munster out-half was taken off on a cart in the 50th minute of today's 29-10 victory over Italy at the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland boss Joe Schmidt says the initial medical report suggests that Carbery, 23, can still go to Japan for the finals next month.

“With Joey, I can say there is no fracture because we’ve had him x-rayed in there," Schmidt told RTE.

“He has a bit of swelling, so we will let that go down and get it scanned. If we don’t think it’s too bad he’ll rehab in Portugal ahead of the England game. If not England, hopefully Wales.

“It’s too soon to say (for sure), but I don’t think it’ll keep him out of the World Cup.”

Hooker Rob Herring came off in the 19th minute and Schmidt explained: “Rob Herring had a bit of a back spasm, a bit of a back strain.

"It isn’t anything too major, not of massive concern to medical team".
