Gardaí have issued fresh advice after more reports of scam callers trying to swindle people out of their money - with one particular number causing serious issues.
Thousands of people have received the dummy calls, texts and/or emails in recent months, with the scammers pretending to be from institutions such as the Gardaí, the Department of Social Welfare, the HSE, or others.
And the problem still isn't going away, according to the Gardai.
Officers attached to the Dublin unit have been getting reports of more people being targeted by the criminals recently.
A spokesperson explained: "Gardai from Santry have reported a significant increase in "cold calling / phishing scams" linked to mobile phone numbers starting with the 083 prefix.
"Callers report that they have received or missed calls from Santry Garda Station on 016664400 shortly followed by a prerecorded message looking for PPS numbers or reporting fraudulent activity on their bank accounts.
"If you receive a call, please be advised that Gardai will never ask you for a PPS number or any information linked to your personal bank account.
"Please do not engage with anyone seeking this information."
The warning comes a short time after a night nurse in Dublin lost almost all of her savings to a scammer.
Appearing on Liveline two weeks ago, Zuzanna told host Joe Duffy of how she was caught out by a scam call after finishing a long night shift.
She told Joe: "They stole €6,600. As you said, I was finishing work after a night duty. Previously, I have only answered a scam call once and they said there was an issue in the tax office. But I hung up that time, you know that.
"The other day, they rang me while I was sleeping after being on night duty. I answered the phone and it was an automatic message asking me to hold in a threatening manner. They told me it was a 'last warning' for me, that my name came up in a criminal investigation.
"They took everything. They cleared me out completely. Savings accounts, current accounts.
