Ireland scams: Fraudsters using cunning An Post trick to con people waiting on packages

Devious scammers are using a cunning new An Post trick to scam people who are valid sellers of items on DoneDeal and other websites.

People have been receiving texts that with an An Post link that declares that goods they are waiting on have not been paid for.

And when people provide their card details, the conniving scammers phish money from their account.

A spokesperson for the Meath Crime Prevention Facebook page said: "This time fraudsters are targeting valid sellers of items on DoneDeal and perhaps other similar sites.

"The scam uses a fake An Post link that declares that the goods have been paid for and then brings you into a screen where you provide your bank card details, no doubt to phish money from your account instead of remitting it to you.

"When you examine the fake An Post page you will notice that none of the other functions are clickable unlike the genuine An Post site.

"If you get one of these, delete it and DO NOT follow the link."
