Ireland scams: Bank of Ireland issues fresh fraudsters warning as new batch of scam texts and emails circulate

The Irish public are being reminded about the threat posed by scammers eager to take their money.

Bank of Ireland has issued a fresh message of caution to customers warning them not to get caught out by fraudsters.

According to the financial institution, more than half of people have received an email, text message, or phone call from someone claiming to be from their bank.

Consumers are advised that Bank of Ireland will never send them a text or email with a link asking for their full 365 PIN or their one-time passcodes.

They will also never call them and ask for their full PIN or one-time passcodes.

In an email from BOI on Tuesday, account holders are being urged to be "extra vigilant" and keep their banking details secure at all times as fraudsters will continue to try and access people's bank account.

It comes as the Department of Social Protection and the gardai are continuing to raise awareness over scams that have been requesting personal data from people.

Gardai say they have received an increase in reports from the public about bogus texts, emails and phone call scams.

They are asking people who receive a bogus call from scammers to block the number whenever possible.

As per previous statements issued by the Department of Social Protection and gardai, these six pieces of advice are being encouraged:

• Do not engage with the caller or return the call.

• Never Share Personal Information with anyone online, by text or on a cold call.

• A Member of An Garda Siochana or a Department of Social Protection employee would never advise a member of the Public to move money from their account or to purchase cryptocurrency or move their money anywhere to keep it safe.

• Do not follow the automated instructions – Do not press 1 etc.

• Never disclose personal or financial information.

• Hang up and block the number if possible.
