Ireland scam alert as fraudsters continue to impersonate Dublin-based gardai

Gardai have issued a warning as phone scammers continue to ramp up their activities.

Fraudsters impersonating Dublin-based officers of An Garda Siochana are catching people out in this devious con.

Criminals are using official garda numbers to trick people into giving out their personal information.

Gardai have asked people to hang up the phone and not call the number back.

A warning on the An Garda Siochana Dublin Facebook page said: "Dublin Gardaí are continuing to warn the public of a recent phone scam where the scammer(s) are using official Garda numbers and impersonating members of Dublin-based An Garda Síochána.

"Hang up the phone, DON'T call the number back and never share personal information with such callers."
