Ireland scam alert after 'relentless' fraudsters torment woman with non-stop calls and texts

A Wicklow resident has issued a warning after being overwhelmed with several scam calls and texts in the span of a day.

Locals have been urged to stay cautious as devious scammers have ramped up their activities over the recent weeks - with some calling and texting over ten times in the span of 24 hours.

Speaking on a local Facebook page, a Greystones woman said it all started when she received a text asking to arrange delivery for a package even though she wasn't expecting one.

The next day she received three more texts from three different mobile numbers with three different links.

She also received three scam calls and after checking her voicemail, she was shocked to discover that there were four more messages from fraudsters pretending to call from the Department of Social Affairs.

She said on Greystones Open Forum: "I just want to warn people about scams, I got one text message yesterday saying my package was about to be delivered with a link to click on to arrange delivery, I can’t think of anything that is being delivered but I still almost clicked on it the.

"Today got three more all from different mobile numbers, I also checked my voicemail as I had not in a while and there were four messages from that scam about being from the department of social welfare, I have got about three other calls from them that I answered, so scamming is relentless at the moment beware."
