Three major lockdown restrictions are set to be eased from September 20 as the country take another step towards fully reopening.
From next Monday, major changes will be implemented for organised indoor activities, outdoor group events and the return to workplaces.
During his address to the Oireachtas Health Committee, Dr Tony Holohan said that he's very optimistic that the lockdown restrictions that are set to lift on October 22 will go ahead according to plan.
"It's my view that we're still on track within the short number of weeks to reach the criterion set out for easing of restrictions on October 22," said the CMO.
In terms of organised indoor group activities (sports, arts, culture, dance classes), from next Monday, they can all take place with capacity limits of 100 people (with appropriate protective measures) where all patrons are immune (fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19 within previous 6 months), or accompanied minors (under 18).
Additionally, where patrons have mixed immunity status, pods of up to six participants will be permitted (excluding adult leaders/teachers).
Multiple pods will also be allowed subject to protective measures and the number of pods will have regard to the size of venue and substantial social distance between individual pods.
As for organised outdoor group activities, restrictions for participants will be removed but it's worth noting that, where applicable, spectator attendance will remain in line with regulations for events.
Finally, attendance at work for specific business requirements may begin on a phased and staggered attendance basis.
