Ireland's Steve Lennon claims victory in second round of PDC World Darts Championship

Steve Lennon has secured his spot in the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship after defeating 12th seed Krzysztof Ratajski 3-1.

The Carlow native produced one of his best career performances at the Ally Pally in London as he dictated the match from the beginning.

Ratajski, known as the "Polish Eagle", was expected to beat Lennon with ease but he fell to the Irish man and he becomes the first seeded player to be knocked out of the competition.

Lennon goes in to his fifth appearance at the Ally Pally in what has been a poor year for him but the bad form was nowhere to be seen, as he won with a 91 average, six 180's confounding a 94 average, 40% on the doubles and four 180's from 'The Polish Eagle'.

He will now meet with either Mervyn King or Ryan Joyce in the third round.

Earlier today, Drogheda man Keane Barry progressed to the second round after defeating Hong Kong's Royden Lam 3-2.

The 19-year-old went off the boil slightly after taking a 2-0 lead, as he allowed Lam to bring it back to 2-2.

Barry was clearly far better than Lam in the opening stages but sloppy mistakes allowed the man from Hong Kong to make a game of it as the Irish fans at the Ally Pally in London began to break sweat.

Barry will meet the in-form Jonny Clayton of Wales on Sunday in the next round.
