Ireland's own Del Boy flees crash in van with just three wheels as gardai discover vehicle full of cans

A van involved in a hit and run "didn't get too far" after the driver fled the scene of the crash with just three wheels.

Gardai in Cork were alerted by members of the public after the vehicle struck a parked car in Kilworth last Friday.

The passing van hit the car on Main Street but the driver only travelled a short distance as the vehicle had lost a wheel.

The motorist was attested nearby for drunk driving, with a number of beer cans discovered in the van.

The man was charged with a road traffic offence and a file is also being prepared in connection with offences arising from the collision.

No one was injured in the incident, and gardai are reminding road users to never drink and drive.

A garda spokesperson for the Cork, Kerry and Limerick Southern Region said on Friday: "Earlier today, Friday, a parked car was struck by a passing van on the Main Street of Kilworth village.

"Witnesses rang 999 and reported the incident. The offending vehicle did not get too far on its three remaining wheels.

"The male driver was arrested nearby for drunk driving and subsequently charged with a road traffic offence.

"An investigation file will also be prepared in relation to other offences arising from the collision.

"On this occasion, nobody was hurt. This is a reminder that it is never OK to drink and drive – next time could cost somebody their life. Our message is always straightforward; #ArriveAlive."
