Ireland's new four phase coronavirus reopening roadmap: The key dates for phase three and four and what you can do

Ireland's five stage reopening roadmap has been accelerated and brought down to just four stages.

Phase two begins on Monday and will see a lot of what was to happen in phase three brought forward - 'phase two plus' as the Taoiseach labelled it.

The dates have also been changed around and will see the country - excluding mass gatherings - all but reopened by July 20 instead of the originally planned August 10.

Here are the key dates in the newly formed plan and the major changes on each of those dates.

Ireland's new coronavirus reopening roadmap dates

Phase two - Monday, June 8

Here's everything you can expect from Monday;

  • You can travel within your own county, or up to 20 km from your home, whichever is greater. These travel limits will be lifted from the end of June.
  • Groups of up to 6 people will be able to interact with each other indoors or outdoors, once they keep at least 2m apart. Groups of up to 15 will be able to meet for outdoor sporting activities.
  • For those who are over 70 or medically vulnerable, it will be possible to welcome a small number of visitors into your home, with physical distancing observed.
  • Shops will also provide dedicated hours for those who are over 70 or in an at risk group.
  • All retail stores can reopen, but opening times will be staggered to relieve pressure on public transport. You are encouraged to shop locally, shop safely and support businesses in your community.
  • Up to 25 people will be allowed to attend funerals of loved ones.
  • Public libraries will commence re-opening.
  • Playgrounds can reopen from Monday, and outdoor camps for children can also be run, once there are no more than 15 people involved.
  • Certain types of elite sports training will also be possible.
  • More people will be able to return to work, including all those who work on their own or whose work can be done safely while staying 2m apart from others. Working from home should remain the norm for those who can do so.
  • Marts can re-open and greyhound racing can resume without spectators.

Phase three - June 29

Domestic travel restrictions will be removed all together at the start of Phase 3, on the 29th of June.

Cabinet decided today to plan a return of the tourism and hospitality sectors on June 29.

Mass and other services at places of worship will begin again in this phase.

The Taoiseach said: "We want to see the return of domestic tourism in our country, and the re-opening of hotels, restaurants, hostels, caravan parks, galleries and museums from 29th of June. Making it possible for bars that also operate as restaurants to reopen."

Further guidance on phase three of the plan will be released in the coming days.

Phase four - July 20

The fourth and final phase will begin on Monday, July 20 and will see Ireland return almost to normal.

Barbers and hairdressers will be allowed open again and the economy will be nearly fully open.

Mass gatherings still won't be allowed and you will have to continue with social distancing and keep washing your hands.

Further guidance on phase four will be released in the coming days.
