Ireland's Lee O'Connor joins Tranmere Rovers on loan from Celtic

Lee O'Connor has joined Tranmere Rovers on a season-long loan from Celtic.

The Ireland Under-21 ‘Player of the Year’ has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Scottish giants following his move from Manchester United.

O’Connor, who provided an assist on his senior Ireland debut against New Zealand last November, said: “I’m happy the move is now over the line.

“It’s a massive football club and the conversations I’ve had with the Gaffer (Mike Jackson), the plans are intriguing.

“I spent a long time with Manchester United, so I know the North West well. I can’t wait for the league to start and hopefully I can help the Club achieve.”

O’Connor added: “I’ve learned a lot from my time at Manchester United, Celtic and international football and I’m looking to use that experience to help me push on.”

Tranmere boss Jackson said: “It’s no secret that we’ve needed a full-back in the building.

“I’d like to thank Celtic for allowing us to sign their player on loan and we’re delighted to have him in.

“He’s a young lad with an excellent pedigree. He has a lot of ability, he’s good on the ball and he fits the way we want to play.”
