Ireland's last 15 Eurovision entries: Where are they now from Jedward to Donna and Joe

There is no Eurovision Song Contest this year due to the coronavirus pandemic that has cancelled all events across the world.

Lesley Roy was due to represent Ireland this year in Rotterdam, The Netherlands but was left bitterly disappointed.

In a coronavirus-free world we would be sitting down to watch the show this week but instead we have decided to look back at some of Ireland's previous Eurovision entries.

Where are they all now, years on from their performances in front of millions?

2005 - Donna and Joe

The brother and sister act, from Westmeath, graced our screens on the third series of the Irish talent show You're a Star before representing Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev.

Singing 'Love?'- penned by Karl Broderick, the pair never made it past the semi finals.

Donna is now off Stateside and is the lead singer of a band called Weekend Celebrity based in LA.

Her musician page says: "Winner of You're A Star and Ireland's Eurovision Representative in 2005! Now living in LA. Lead singer of Weekend Celebrity."

In 2015 Joe auditioned for the twelfth series of  The X Factor  and made it past the arena stage and all the way to bootcamp and the six chair challenge stage.

Back in 2014, it was revealed that Joe had been diagnosed with MS. Upon hearing the news the young star said "My world crumbled around me. I was crying and the doctors just left me be."

Joe isn't that active on social media these days but we hope he's keeping well.

2006 - Brian Kennedy

Brian Kennedy finished a very respectable 10th back in 2006 with song "Every song is a cry for love".

He is no stranger to the the public since and his career in music has remained strong, although he too had some health battles.

The Belfast star was diagnosed with rectal cancer in the summer of 2016 and underwent a number of gruelling bouts of chemotherapy and surgery to treat the disease.

The 53-year old had his last round of chemo last summer.

2007 - Dervish

Dervish unfortunately came last in the Eurovision in 2007 despite being fortunate to pick up an early slot on the live show which is seen as an advantage.

"They can't stop the spring" was actually co-written by John Waters who finds himself in the news currently.

Dervish singer Cathy Jordan never watched the performance back but band are still going strong to this day.

2008 - Dustin the Turkey

A controversial entry that didn't do too well in the end - not even qualifying for the finals.

Dustin still stars in a few plays and it was touted that he would be back in the Eurovision but that is yet to happen.

2009 - Sinead Mulvey and Black Daisy

Sinead Mulvey and the band just missed out on making the finals with "Et Cetera" which was a surprise to many who had high hopes for the song.

Since then Sinead is very much off the public radar and we couldn't even track her down, her wikipedia said she was a singer as well as flight attendant but as ever it can't always be trusted.

2010 - Niamh Kavanagh

Niamh had previously won the competition and was coming back for a second crack at it but unfortunately finished 23rd with "It's for you".

She's still very much in the public eye and won Celebrity Masterchef in 2017.

Her Twitter bio is pretty impressive too - "Singer, Eurovision Winner, Celebrity Masterchef winner Ireland 2017."

2011 and 2012 - Jedward

The X-Factor duo of John and Edward represented Ireland twice and did well twice.

Finishing 8th with "Lipstick" and 19th with "Waterline" the second time around.

The pair have been singing and performing ever since although took a brief hiatus after the death of their beloved mum almost two years ago.

Last year they were touring in early May across Ireland and the UK.

They still perform regularly and update their fans with new acoustic performances on social media if you want to check them out.

2013 - Ryan Dolan

Ryan Dolan's Eurovision appearance didn't go to plan finishing 26th with just five points.

Since then he's kept at the music and last year received huge praise for his performance of The Greatest Showman hit 'Never Enough".

That was however the last song he graced his 40,000 Youtube subscribers however.

2014 - Can-Linn

Can-Linn, supported by Kasey Smith, failed to qualify for the final and has stayed away from the limelight since.

2015 - Molly Sterling

Molly Sterling's "Playing With Numbers" was another entry with big hopes that didn't make it to the final unfortunately.

Molly is still in the music business and making a good go at it with plenty of rave reviews.

Other Voices described her as the following: "Molly's music is rare, raw and overflowing with exposed emotion that delivers every note and syllable with precise detail, giving the listener the feeling that it has been honed from somewhere deep and unfathomable."

2016 - Nicky Byrne

Westlife man Nicky Byrne made didn't even make it to the finals with "Sunlight" which was a huge disappointment.

However he is of course now back with Westlife who were due to tour the UK and Ireland this year but that has been pushed back due to coronavirus.

We are hopeful of seeing him in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Croke Park in 2021 though.

2017 - Brendan Murray

Young Brendan's efforts to qualify for the final with "Dying to try" again fell short - a common theme for Ireland in recent years.

But don't worry the Galway man is still singing his heart out and has a following of over 130k on Instagram.

His latest single "Falling" is out now and he is always playing gigs - at least when there isn't a pandemic.

2018 - Ryan O'Shaughnessy

Ryan's "Together" track was the first in years to get to a final and landed him with a final placing of 16th.

Since then his career has continued to grow and he released "Live Off The Floor: Vol. 1." earlier this year.

The acclaimed record with three tracks was recorded live in Dublin's Camden Recording Studios.

2019 - Sarah McTernan

It's only been a year since Sarah's entry which unfortunately did not make it into the finals.

Most recently she has been gigging but of course cannot at the moment due to the situation.

She also said she was gutted for all the contestants this year who didn't get to experience the live shows.

Sarah tweeted: "Absolutely gutted for all the amazing Eurovision acts who have worked so hard this year, especially Lesley Roy, such an amazing song with an amazing message! It’s without a doubt the right thing to do in this uncertain and scary time. Big love to all the ESC fam stay safe."
