Ireland's Fittest Family set to return to RTE in October as Derval O'Rourke posts behind-the-scenes shot of coaches

Ireland's Fittest Family will return in October - with coach Derval O'Rourke sharing a behind the scenes snap of the four coaches.

The hit RTE show is must-see TV every Autumn as a number of clans battle through gruelling challenges such as Hell & Back, The Swamp and fans favourite Hang Tough, all to win the title of Ireland's Fittest Family and scoop the cash prize on offer.

There to help the groups along the way are four iconic sporting legends.

Anna Geary, the four-time All Star winner with Cork, Irish rugby hero Donncha O'Callaghan, legendary hurler Davy Fitzgerald and Olympic sprinter Derval O'Rourke are the four coaches, with all bar Derval having won the show twice.

We knew that filming had gotten underway when Anna posted a behind-the-scenes shot last month.

Well, now we know that the show will hit our screens in October, thanks to Derval's latest instagram post.

The Cork athlete uploaded a pic of the foursome with coffees in hand, captioning it;: "We are back on your screens with Ireland’s Fittest Family at the end of October.

"Tell me who would you fancy a coffee & chat with?! All the scheming & plotting happens during the coffee chats"

Mairead Ronan, the host of the show, chimed in with her own version in the comments, writing: "I know exactly where I was when this photo was taken... I was trying to deal with wearing a jump suit , a microphone wire and pack all while in a portaloo".

Faced with the ongoing uncertainty of the pandemic, filming has intensified to ensure nothing gets in the way of the hit RTE show.

33-year-old Anna told the Irish Daily Mirror: “It’s been busy, but it is really good.

“And with the Covid team involved, it just means there’s so many safety procedures to take place.

“Normally it would be a longer process, with more breaks in between, but I suppose they know that the quicker they can get it done and dusted and wrapped the better and the safer.”
