Ireland's €200 credit payment for energy costs to be paid soon - here's how to claim it

The Government announced plans to give a once-off credit payment to households to help with the rising cost of energy.

Initially the electricity payment was €113.50 including VAT, but that was deemed not enough as costs continued to rise.

In February the Government confirmed that they would be increasing the credit payment to €200.

But when will hard-pressed bill payers receive it? And who's eligible for the payment? Dublin Live has the latest.

Here's everything we know from the total amount bill payers can expect, the payment date, how will people receive the payment plus the eligibility criteria.

How much are you going to receive?

Initially households were going to receive a total of €113.50 including VAT. However this has since increased to €200 including VAT.

When will bill payers receive the payment?

The credit payment will be paid by Government at the end of March. It will then appear on the March/April electricity bills.

How will bill payers receive the credit payment?

Bill payers won't actually receive a cheque or any other form of payment. Instead €200 will be automatically taken off the energy bill.

All energy suppliers will be paid by the Distribution System Operator ( ESB ).

Who's eligible for the electricity credit payment?

Anyone who is the holder of an electricity account will benefit from the payment. Approximately 2.1 million account holders across Ireland will benefit as well as pay as you go customers.
