Ireland Rugby World Cup team news: Robbie Henshaw named in starting XV for Samoa clash

Peter O'Mahony and Rob Kearney have been left out of the Ireland line-up for their must-win clash with Samoa on Saturday (8am BST).

But Robbie Henshaw will have his first involvement in this Rugby World Cup as Bundee Aki's centre partner as Joe Schmidt named his team for the final Pool A game in Fukuoka.

For the second game running, there will be 11 changes Schmidt's side from the last outing.

Johnny Sexton, Keith Earls, Tadhg Beirne and Aki start for the second game on the spin as Rory Best resumes his place in the front row and also the captaincy role from Sexton.

Schmidt is rolling out most of his big guns with Ireland chasing a bonus point win to secure their passage to the quarter-finals.

O'Mahony, whose workload is being managed with a potential quarter-final with the All Blacks in mind, is on the bench.

Meanwhile Kearney is replaced at full-back by Jordan Larmour, who played very well in the position against Scotland in the opening pool win.

The Scots' 61-0 victory over Russia yesterday ensures that Pool A will go down to the wire at the weekend, with Gregor Townsend's side facing hosts Japan on Sunday - 24 hours after Ireland hope to gain a bonus point victory over Samoa to ensure qualification for the knock-out stages.

World Rugby are due to give a statement today on the situation regarding the host's final pool game, with a possible move on the cards rather than a 0-0 draw and two points awarded to both teams.

Henshaw makes his first appearance of the tournament after recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up just days after Ireland arrived in Japan.

He will partner his former Connacht team-mate Aki as Ireland look to match the brute force of Samoa in midfield.

Iain Henderson and James Ryan resume their second row partnership, but Beirne gets another starting chance - this time lining out at no 6 in place of O'Mahony, rather than as a lock.

The versatile Munster forward has won the battle with Rhys Ruddock for a back row start alongside Josh van der Flier and CJ Stander.

IRELAND:  J Larmour; K Earls, R Henshaw, B Aki, J Stockdale, J Sexton, C Murray; C Healy, R Best, T Furlong, I Henderson, J Ryan, T Beirne, J van der Flier, CJ Stander.

Substitutes:  S Cronin, D Kilcoyne, A Porter, J Kleyn, P O'Mahony, L McGrath, J Carbery, A Conway.
