Ireland pubs: Popular wedding venue Wright's Anglers Rest forced to close due to positive COVID-19 test announces reopening date

A popular west Dublin wedding venue has announced that it will reopen this week after being forced to close when a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Wright's Anglers Rest in the Strawberry Beds, Chapelizod took the hard decision to shut its doors last Tuesday.

Management at the well-known bar and restaurant said it decided to close in the "best interest of public safety".

A statement released last week read: "We are taking this proactive approach as the health and safety of both our customers and staff is of paramount importance to us.

"All those identified as close contacts have had their information passed on to the HSE contact tracing team and are following self-isolation protocol.

"Since our reopening in June we have worked hard implementing all the necessary precautions and safety measures as per the HSE guidelines.

"We are committed to ensuring a safe environment for everyone and are taking all the required additional measures.

"Although we are disappointed to close our doors for the time being, we feel that it’s the right thing to do and a small sacrifice to ensure the health of our staff, customers and the wider community."

The venue, which is owned by the Michael JF Wright Hospitality Group, confirmed this evening it would reopen its doors on Friday with additional safety measures put in place.

They said: "We are delighted to announce that we are reopening this Friday, 11th September.

"The decision to close temporarily was taken by management as a precautionary measure to put the safety of our staff and customers first and avoid transmission.

"We have been working closely with the HSE and will continue to follow their guidelines.

"In addition we have introduced extra measures to ensure a safe environment for everyone. We look forward to welcoming you back and than you for your understanding."
