Ireland-Portugal clash a sell-out as tickets are snapped up within minutes

Ireland's upcoming World Cup qualifier against Portugal is a sell-out after tickets were today snapped up within minutes.

Stephen Kenny’s charges will face the Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portuguese in front of 51,000 supporters at Aviva Stadium on November 11.

The remaining tickets for the qualifying clash went on general release at 10.00am - but didn’t last long.

It will be the first senior Ireland international to be played in front of a capacity home crowd since the 1-1 draw with Denmark in November 2019.

Last month, the Aviva Stadium attendance for the Qatar friendly was capped at 25,000 due to Covid guidelines.

But the 4-0 win still sold out, although ticket prices were lowered considerably to mark the FAI centenary.

While Ronaldo and his Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes will be top drawer attractions in Dublin, the sell-out crowd is a significant boost for Kenny.

Despite just three wins in his 18 games to date, the manager is well-placed to land a new FAI contract when the FAI board meets next month.

Kenny needs to avoid a disastrous result in Luxembourg on November 14 for that to happen.
