Stephen Kenny is still without a win as Ireland manager but will be happy with the Nations League point picked up in Dublin.
Ryan Giggs' Wales top the Nations League group and were facing a depleted Irish squad at the Aviva.
The late red card for James McClean didn't make the Irish job any easier but the hosts secured a point and there were some positives for Kenny amid the gloom of a difficult week.

Darren Randolph 6 - Got away with one when he spilled a cross but had little to do otherwise against a toothless attack.
Matt Doherty 7 - Switched to emergency centre-back after Long’s injury but adapted well to the unfamiliar role
Shane Duffy 6 - Distribution was sloppy throughout but he almost nipped in to score before the break.
Kevin Long 5 - A rare start after Egan’s absence but forced off early with a swollen eye after an elbow to the head
Enda Stevens 6 - Solid and did all that was asked of him. Crossed for Shane Long who should have scored.
Jeff Hendrick 6 - Good shift in the No 10 role and heavily involved before tiring after 120-minutes in Slovakia.
Jayson Molumby 8 - Neat, tidy and full of energy and has a long-term future here but now an injury doubt.
Conor Hourihane 7 - Worked hard and did a lot of the dirty stuff by tracking back to help Doherty out at centre-back.
Robbie Brady 6 - Went close with a first-half shot and was centrally involved in Ireland’s best play before tiring
Shane Long 6 - First start for Ireland in two years and should have won it but headed over from close range
James McClean 6 - Blew hot and cold before his sending off in the closing stages that rules him out of the Finland game.
