Ireland plans Live Aid-style concerts to celebrate the end of COVID

Irish proposals for Live Aid-style concerts to celebrate the end of COVID have been accepted.

Minister for Arts, Catherine Martin, brought the idea to her European counterparts at an EU meeting of arts ministers and all agreed with her proposal to organise massive celebrations.

Ms Martin is understood to have received a ‘warm reception’ from across the board and plans are now moving forward to organise the historic gigs.

The plan is for a series of concerts with top rock and pop stars featuring to take place simultaneously in various EU capitals sometime this summer.

Memories will come flowing back for anyone old enough to remember of the worldwide phenomenon that was Live Aid back in 1985.

It saw the world’s top musicians unite to perform across the globe for charity, in that case the terrible famine conditions in Africa that were killing millions.

A network of COVID Aid concerts could also raise money for the needy, including on this occasion the thousands of performers across Europe who have had their livelihoods wiped out during COVID

And there is no doubt that it would also be a massive boost for morale of everybody in Europe too.

Ms Martin said that those involved in live performance have been "among the most negatively impacted" by the pandemic.
