Ireland opening phases travel: When will you be allowed outside your region and holiday around the country?

With foreign travel this summer looking highly unlikely, people are hoping they can at least have a domestic holiday.

At the moment you are not allowed further than 5km from your home and can only make essential journeys.

The opening roadmap released last Friday reveals when you will be allowed to start travelling around the country again.

Phase one

In phase one, May 18th, there will be no change to restrictions and travel further than 5km will not be permitted.

Phase two

Phase two will see that travel restriction raised as high as 20km but you will still be asked to avoid non-essential journeys.

Phase three

Phase three will maintain the 20km distance and nothing more will change in terms of essential and non-essential journeys.

Phase four

Phase four, July 20th, is when you will be allowed to move out of your region and there is no longer any mention in the plan of only moving for essential reasons.

Also in phase four it is recommended that hotels, hostels, caravan parks and holiday parks can open again for social and tourist activities initially on a limited occupancy basis.

Phase five

Phase five will also see tourist travel to offshore islands like the Aran Islands by non- residents resume.
