Ireland opening phases: Government advice on parties and meeting groups of friends

For many it's been months since they've seen their friends in person and not on social media or zoom calls.

With the publishing of the Government's roadmap to reopening Ireland, seeing your friends again is not all that far away.

Although how you see them is likely not going to be the same for quite some time.

Social distancing will be with us here in Ireland for months and maybe years more but you will at least be allowed be in people's company.

From the Government issued advice, here is when you can start meeting your pals, having gatherings and then organising house parties - of sorts - again.

May 18th - groups of four outside

Phase one will allow for you and three others not from the same household to meet up outside while maintaining social distancing.

The roadmap says: "Up to four people not of same household to meet outdoors while maintaining strict social distancing."

You will still have to avoid "non- essential social visiting" and will still be bound by the 5km limit however.

June 8th - up to four people may visit other households

In phase two people will be allowed visit other households for social gatherings in groups of four.

Social distancing will of course have to be maintained even during these visits.

Varadkar says number of cases is 'not good enough' to ease lockdown

The travel limit is upped to 20km at this point which may allow you visit pals further away.

June 29th - no change

There is no changes listed in phase three of the plan.

July 20th - larger gatherings

This day will see a significant change as people will be allowed to gather in slightly larger numbers in households - social distancing will still need to be implemented.

The roadmap says: "Slightly larger number of people may visit another household for a short period of time while maintaining social distancing."

Non family gatherings with a maximum amount of people(TBC at a later date) will be ok again with social distancing important

Small weddings and baptisms will also be allowed - it adds: "Small social gatherings by family and close friends limited to a maximum number of attendees for a limited period of time where social distancing can be maintained (e.g. small weddings, baptisms)."

August 10th - Weddings and large social gatherings

Gatherings of friends will be allowed in bigger numbers again although weddings and larger events will still have restrictions.

Social distancing is not going away and even small house gatherings/parties will have to implement them.
