Ireland midfielder Harry Arter joins Fulham on season-long loan

Republic of Ireland midfielder Harry Arter has joined his brother-in-law Scott Parker at Fulham.

The 29-year-old has signed for the Championship side on a season-long loan with the possibility of a permanent deal at the end of the season.

It has a second loan move in two years for Arter who spent last term at Cardiff City after falling down the pecking order at Bournemouth.

Arter said: "I'm delighted to be here. Fulham is a fantastic club with a lot of ambition who want to get back to the Premier League, and I hope I can help them achieve that this season.

The move to the second tier of English football should also improve his chances of featuring for Ireland.

Arter has only played 18 minutes of four Euro 2020 qualifying games under new boss Mick McCarthy.

But he should enjoy plenty of playing time at Craven Cottage where director of football and vice-chairman Tony Khan hailed the signing of the 15-times capped Sidcup man.

Khan said: “Harry Arter’s arrival at Fulham Football Club will strengthen our midfield and gives us another experienced and proven player who’s contributed to his former club’s promotion from the Championship.

“Harry’s a great fit for our squad, and we believe he’ll help us achieve our main objective, a return to the Premier League. Come on Fulham!”

He will join fellow Irish international Cyrus Christie in a Fulham team managed by Arter's brother-in-law Parker.

The London club began life back in the Championship with a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell last weekend and host Blackburn Rovers at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
