Ireland lose to Scotland in World Cup of Darts final

The Republic of Ireland fell to a 3-1 defeat to Scotland after reaching the World Cup of Darts final for the first time this year in Hamburg.

The Irish pair of Steve Lennon and William O'Connor opened up with a big win over old rivals England before defeating Austria and the Netherlands on Sunday to make it to their debut final.

And dynamic duo Peter Wright and two-time world champion Gary Anderson were able to pick up the win in a tense decider, eventually winning by two to take home the trophy.

To make the final, they put World Number 1 Michael van Gerwen and Jermaine Wattimena to the sword with a stunning 4-0 in doubles as Lennon provided 131 and 128 finishes.

This came after a 2-1 quarter-final win over Austria.

Scotland are now the third nation to win the £70,000 prize.
