Ireland lockdown: What will open if restrictions move to Level Four on March 5

A move to Level Four could be on the cards on March 5 if Ireland's next six weeks of lockdown prove successful.

The Government has stressed there will be a very gradual reopening whenever it does begin - whether that be on March 5 or later.

So that undoubtedly means the next step in the plan will be to move to Level Four.

And seen as it's been so long since we've been at Level Four, many will forget what exactly that entails - so here's a rundown of the basic rules.

You won't be heading to the pub straight away but there is some added freedom.

Level Four restrictions

Exercise and sporting events

Training can resume outdoors - as long as it's non-contact and in pods of up to 15 people.

Indoor training must be individual only. No exercise or dance classes can take place.

No sports matches or events can take place, with the exemption of 'professional and elite sport' which can take place behind closed doors.

Gyms, leisure centres and swimming pools will remain closed.

Religious services

Services will continue to be held online, though places of worship will remain open for private prayer.

Funerals

Up to 25 mourners can attend.

Museums, galleries and other cultural attractions

All venues will stay closed. Online exhibitions and services will be available for those who want them.

Bars, cafes and restaurants (including hotel restaurants and bars)

Restaurants and cafes will only be allowed to serve food for takeaway or delivery.

Outdoor dining limited to a maximum of 15 patrons.

Wet pubs

Outdoor seating only, limited to a maximum of 15 patrons.

Nightclubs, discos and casinos

Nightclubs, discos and casinos will remain closed.

Hotels and accommodation

Hotels can remain open but only for existing guests and those with essential non-social and non-tourist purposes.

Retail and services (for example: hairdressers, beauticians, barbers)

Face coverings must be worn.

Essential retail and businesses that are primarily outdoors only can remain open. All other retail and personal services closed.

Work

Only essential or other designated workers should go to work.

Domestic travel restrictions

The big one here is that the 5k travel limit would be lifted.

Instead, you would be restricted to stay in your county apart from essential work, education and other essential purposes.

Schools, early learning and childcare services, adult and higher education

Schools and creches will stay open with protective measures.

Further, higher and adult education will be primarily online with appropriate protective measures in place for essential attendance on site.

Outdoor playgrounds, play areas and parks

All of the above will remain open with protective measures in place.

Transport

Face coverings must be worn on public transport.

Public transport capacity will be restricted to 25%.

Essential workers and essential purposes only.

Over 70 and medically vulnerable individuals

Those aged over 70 years and over and the medically vulnerable should exercise judgement regarding the extent to which they engage with others and in activities outside home.

Visiting long-term residential care facilities (nursing and care homes)

Suspended, aside from critical and compassionate circumstances.
